Drivers in Los Angeles are more likely to kill or injure non-motorists than national average

According to the Los Angeles Times automobile drivers in LA are more likely than the national average to kill or injure pedestrians or cyclists because of poor pedestrian infrastructure and a densely urban environment.

A car striking a pedestrian or cyclist can cause severe injury: the injured party is unlikely to have any protection against the initial impact and they may then be thrown violently onto the ground causing further damage. A traumatic brain injury (“TBI”) may result, and this can create lasting and sometimes permanent symptoms for the victim of an automobile collision.
